Bridal Lingerie Explained

by: Jason Mark Hulott

A wedding gown is the centerpiece of a wedding. But if the gown is the centerpiece, the lingerie is the largest flower in the centerpiece. Without the right lingerie, a wedding dress doesn't fit the theme. Who would think to wear cotton panties and a simple bra underneath a wedding dress? Bridal lingerie can make or break the effects of a wedding dress. Different styles of lingerie can enhance or hide parts of the body that the bride feels are prominent.

What type of lingerie a bride gets depends on the style and length of the wedding gown. The choice also varies with the bride's body shape. Dresses that show some skin, or shorter dresses, will need an "invisible" undergarment that doesn't get in the way. Women who wear strapless dresses cannot wear a bra. In this case, adhesive cups or breast petals are tasteful and attractive. Breast petals cover the nipple and center of the breast. They can be made of polyester or silicone gel, and ensure that nothing comes through the gown that doesn't belong. For women who need to enhance their breasts, a bustier or push-up bra can do wonders to make them appear larger and fuller.

Bridal lingerie is reminiscent of the old corset/bustier style of the Victorian Era. But unlike the old style, newer types actually emulate comfort. They also offer the control that brides need underneath all that fancy ribbon and lace. Modern corsets tighten and form the waistline. They can be of a lace-up style or made from naturally stretchy material like spandex. Bustiers are also popular wedding lingerie. They emphasize and control the bust. And a simple pair of panty hose or control-top panties can support and tighten the rear.

It is usually the maid of honor who chooses the bridal lingerie. However, she only chooses lingerie for the wedding day itself. Sometimes the wedding night. It will be up to the bride to choose lingerie for the honeymoon. Each occasion will dictate a different kind of lingerie, since each has its own emotional context. For the wedding ceremony, lacy or patterned fabrics are not recommended. They can show through the gown, making it look somewhat sloppy and distasteful. Seamless undergarments and thongs are good for those who are comfortable in them. Especially if the bride wears a short dress or one that reveals the panty line. A bodysuit that covers both the breast and the torso will serve as a slimming garment, if the wedding dress is thin.

Finding bridal lingerie is a very important job. The bride will be wearing the wedding lingerie for more than twelve hours. She will need something that is comfortable while still being classy. Lingerie for the wedding night is easier to choose. No one but the bride and her new husband will see this lingerie. It's all about romance. Frilly, lacy lingerie is sexy and provocative without heading into pornographic. For the honeymoon, pornographic is good. Almost expected. But the theme doesn't have to be taken too far. The maid outfits and the fishnet stockings should be spared for later, when men and women need to spice up their sex lives, not on the honeymoon, when sex is most of the reason for celebrating!

Handbags- Choosing The Right Fit For Your Body Type

Handbags have become the most popular accessory on the market over the past year. With thousands of styles to choose from, finding the perfect handbag that fits your style can be difficult. As smart as women are, we still tend to pick the wrong bag for our body type. Believe it or not ladies, a fabulous handbag can ruin your whole look if it doesn't match your fit.

When I say "fit" I mean the size of your body. We all are aware of the different shapes and sizes of women. But, did you know that certain handbags look better on certain people? I know...your thinking, "WHAT!" It 's hard enough having to deal with weight issues, now we have to worry about our handbag making us look bigger? Relax, I'm not saying that your handbag will make you look bigger. I'm just saying that a handbag that complements your size as well as your look, is always best.

Lets say you are 5'-9" and thin. You are the luckiest of all body types because you can pretty much get away with any size handbag. With the length of your body you can wear a large tote. These bags cover the middle of the body and allows the body to still be shown. Try not to get too carried away with your sizing though.

Remember, there are handbags for wearing and handbags for travel luggage. We don't wear our luggage for everyday wear. Your body will look especially nice if you are carrying a smaller handbag. Just be sure it fits snug under your arm. Wearing it this way shows off the waist line. It also makes the body look longer for those who are going for the tall look.

Lets say you are 5'-3" and round. You are going to want to go with the smaller handbag. These bags will make you look taller than you really are and if worn under the arm, draws attention to the top of the body. Larger bags will only make you look shorter. And quite possibly wider.

Lets say you are 5'-6" and curvy. Look for a handbag that accentuates your waistline. A satchel in medium or the hippie in medium will look great for your size. Wearing medium sizes are best for your body type because it falls just above the waist. Showing off that sexy curve of yours that 's just above the hip area.

Lets say you are full figured or plus sized. Wearing larger bags like the large tote are best for your body type because they are made wider and larger and help to make the body look smaller. A smaller handbag with smaller straps will only add to your size and possibly make you appear bigger than you really are.

Making the right choices for you handbag is essential when putting your whole look together. Having a handbag that is too small or too big can ruin a great look. You wouldn't put on a patent leather shoe with sweats would you? No!! Wearing the wrong handbag can do the same damage to your look. Some handbags can flatter your body type, whether it be big or small. Also, try mixing up your handbags.

Also, try to wear a different handbag for different occasions. If you are wearing jeans, wear a sportier handbag. If you are dressed up for a special occasion, wear the clutch or one of the smaller bags. Just try to match the bag with the shoes. We all have to have a brown and black handbag. Having more than one handbag is a must!

Ethical Fashion: What, Why and Why Now?

Overview
What is ethical fashion, why is it important, and why are we just hearing about it now? Well, to answer these questions we start with what is wrong with clothing production today. Most clothing available in stores today is produced in an unethical manner using sweatshop and/or child labour to ensure a larger profit margin. Manufacturers use unsustainable fabrics like non-organic cotton (dubbed as natural, it accounts for almost 25% of all pesticide use) and polyester (which is a petroleum by-product). They use conventional dying practices which release chlorine, chromium, and other pollutants into the environment posing a health risk to the farmers, assemblers and wearers (7 of the top 15 pesticides used on conventional US cotton crops are “possible” to “known” human carcinogens). The shift to ethical production practices in the clothing industry has been undeniably important for a long time making the market ripe for a positive change. Consumers are starting to demand better.

What is Ethical Fashion?

Ethical fashion is that which is produced using: fairly-paid and fairly-treated adult workers; sustainable fabrics and materials like organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and reclaimed or recycled materials; low-impact fiber-reactive dyes or vegetable dyes; respect for a healthy environment and/or product for the farmer, the assembler, and the wearer of the clothing.

Why Ethical Fashion?

We are all responsible for how our own lifestyles affect the environment. Simple measures can be taken to achieve big changes by simply switching our buying patterns to include products made of low impact materials. Positive pressure on businesses who have yet to volutarily clean up their acts is very easily applied by simply choosing not to spend money on their products, and helping – little by little – to grow the businesses who have made an explicit commitment to responsible business practice.

Why Now?

The wonderful thing about the booming ethical fashion industry is the huge variety of designs, colours, cuts, fabrics and sizes now available. Long stigmatized as cousin to the burlap sack, the ethical offerings today are design-oriented. Designers with heart are creating beautiful, sexy, edgy, classic, current, imaginative, and, yes, flattering pieces – ethics will simply not be compromised and thankfully neither will the look and feel of their work. Reducing our footprint can be done without making any sacrifices.

One of the main driving forces of the ethical fashion boom is public awareness. Thanks to exposés on large manufacturers, the fact that sweatshop labour is used for the overwhelming majority of production can no longer be ignored. The power of boycotting has been demonstrated, as has the power of voting with our dollars to support good practice. Thanks to accessible work like “An Inconvenient Truth”, the lay person is no longer free to assuage their environmental guilt with the denial of the existence of climate change. Thanks to alternative medical practitioners, who deal with cause instead of just symptom, we're learning that we can build health by surrounding ourselves with and consuming healthy things.

Consumers are growing weary of the quantity without quality mentality. Most designers with an ethical bent to their art, work in small batches, producing high quality goods with exceptional fabrics. Consumers are, in growing numbers, appreciating the right to vote with their dollars; and are exercising it to support expansion of the sustainable textile industry, small farmers and farm co-operatives. We're all looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, increase our social contribution, ease our consciences, hold on to some creature comforts, and continue celebrating art in all its forms.

The Secret of Perfect Fitting and Custom Made Clothes

Fashion can refer to the style or custom of dress that prevails at a given time. It can also refer to the garment that that is in style or the making of it. So, you can fashion your fashions in the fashion of the current trends. Well, you get the idea.

There are many variations in fashion around the world. Often, these variations are determined by the culture of the different regions. Variations can be very distinct, such as the Japanese kimono or the sari in India. Others are not quite as distinct. It is harder to distinguish the difference between British fashion and French fashion.

Other things influence the variations in fashion as well, such as age, occupation, social class and generation. The fashions worn by a young person might look less than appealing when worn by an older person, etc. But there are many crossovers. Often, it is the way different items of clothing are combined or accessorized that makes the 'fashion statement' unique to a particular group.

Fashion is in a continual state of flux. The changes can occur from year to year or even within a year. The nature of fashion is also very cyclical. What was in fashion ten or twenty years ago, is now or will be in fashion again. An example of this is hip-hugger jeans. They were in fashion in the late 60s and early 70s and have now come back into fashion.

The socioeconomic and/or politic framework that exists in a particular region often influences current fashions. 'Mao suits' were the result of the move to enforce uniformity in mainland China. Designers around the world picked up on this and created variations to fit into their cultural arenas.

Not matter what the styles are, everyone would like to dress in the current fashions or, at least, close to them. But it can often be too expensive for many women. There is a way to dress very fashionably and maybe even start a new trend or two yourself. Make your own fashions!

Even if you have never sewn a stitch before, you can learn to put together some great fashions. Start with a basic, easy pattern and make it similar to designer fashions by adding embellishments. As you become more proficient, you can use more complicated patterns or even make your own patterns based on designer fashions. A big advantage to making your own fashions is that you can make them uniquely yours.

There are so many benefits in making your own clothes. You can choose the colors, prints, patterns and textures for fabrics that you prefer. And, as I stated before, you can make your clothes uniquely yours with one-of-a-kind fashions. Each garment will be custom made just for you and made so that the fit is perfect.

No more wearing clothes that come close, but not quite, to fitting right. Best of all, you can save money making your own clothes. For about the same cost as buying one designer outfit, you can easily make two or more outfits.

Making your own clothes will give you so much satisfaction, not to mention making you the envy of your circle of friends.

5 Simple Steps to Finding Your True Bra Size

There are a few things in life which confuse women, and among these few items definitely lies the mysterious bra size.

The bra size is one measurement which many women get wrong, and which in turn causes some style disasters. Wearing a bra in the wrong size is often the cause of dresses and top not looking good, irritated and squashed breasts, and many other unpleasant circumstances which no woman wants to experience.

Often, the cause for women wearing the wrong bra size is simple. They do not know what it is, because quite simply they do not know how to find out what it is. Some of us feel comfortable with going to a lingerie store and getting a 'professional' to give us a bra fitting to help discover the correct bra size, but many other are not. So here I present to you a quick and easy, step by step guide to a personal and private bra fitting.

Follow these 5 simple and easy steps should help you find out your correct bra size in no time!

Items you will need:
1. An essential item that you will need, is obviously a tape measure.
2. A mirror, this will come in very hand to ensure you are doing things the right way, so make sure you are standing in front of a mirror.
3. Pen and paper, it is good to keep this at hand, unless you have a really good memory! I always like to have a pen and paper at hand to ensure things are recorded down, and calculated the right way.

Step 1
The first thing we need to do is measure underneath the breasts in order to find out the band size. Whilst standing in front of your mirror, with the measuring tape at hand, start at your cleavage and pass the measuring tape behind your back and around to your front. This measurement is your band size, so jot it down on the paper: Band size = X inches.

Step 2
Now we need to discover the good old cup size. Three essentials steps are involved in finding this out. Firstly, you will need to move the measuring tape up to your armpits and measure above your breasts. Write this number down on the paper: Above breast level = X inches.

Step 3
Secondly, we will need to measure the breast at nipple level, so move the measuring tape further down to do so. Jot down this new number on the paper as well: Nipple level = X inches.

Step 4
Now the final step in finding out your cup size involved subtracting the 'above breast level' measurement from the 'nipple level' measurement, and there you have it! The result is your cup size. Follow the guide below to find out what your cup size is, according to the difference in measurement between 'above breast level' and 'nipple level'. So let 's say the difference is 4 inches, your cup size would be a C.

* 0 to 1/2" AA cup
* 1/2" to 1" A cup
* 1" to 2 1/2" B cup
* 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" C cup
* 3 1/2" to 4 1/2" D cup
* 4 1/2" to 6" DD (or E cup for some bras)
* 6" to 7" DDD (or F cup for some bras)
* 7" to 8" G cup
* 8" to 9" GG cup
* 9" to 10" H cup
* 10" to 11" HH cup
* 11" to 12" J cup
* 12" to 13" JJ cup

Step 5
Get your band size, which is the measurement you found out when you first started your own private fitting, and your recently discovered cup size and couple them up together. Viola! There you have it, you official and accurate bra size. For example, if your band size was 38 inches, and your cup size was a C, your bra size would be a 38C.

Knowing your true and accurate bra size is the key in finding lingerie and intimate wear which feels comfortable, give you all the support you need, and makes your clothes look flattering on your figure.
